Manfred Baumann

The photographer Manfred Baumann is known not only for his national but also international portraits of stars and starlets. He knows how to stage people, to tell a story, to create an expression that is much more than the person portrayed. Manfred Baumann grew up in Vienna and found his way into photography through a few detours. While working as an assistant for a Viennese photographer he developes an affinity for nude photography which to this day form a significant part of his oeuvre. Commissions to take pictures of Hollywood celebrities he expanded his love onto portrait photography:

Martin Kove’s inescapable gaze seen on Baumanns book cover „Face to Face“, the distinctive and well-known eyes of Bruce Willis, humorous scenes with a backwards in the pool falling Thomas Kretschmann or the charismatic David Hasselhoff and his daughter Hayley. His soul mate, as well as assistant and wife Nelly is always with him - since 1996 they’ve been inseparable and travel the world together. As a consequence breathtaking landscapes and street shots gained an important part which the photographer takes during his travel and camping holidays. The exhibition „A photographer’s Life“ in the Leica Gallery shows Baumann’s diverse and partly unknown work, including both man and nature. The eye for detail and his sense for aesthetics make his photographs unique.
