Jeff Divine

*1950, San Diego, USA

Jeff Divine grew up in the La Jolla district on the Southern California Coast.

Divine is one of the surfphotographers, who have always practiced the sport themselves and were part of the then new surfing movement. He spent his childhood just a few blocks away from the beach. At the age of 14, he began surfing and already earned his first photo camera a year later. He offered the recorded pictures to school and surf friends to buy.

In 1968 the Surfer Magazine published Divine's photographic work for the first time. On behalf of the magazine, he undertook many small trips to the Hawaiian island of Oahu to photograph the best surfers in the world. He also looked for exotic remote spots to capture truly authentic images of the surfing scene. Massy tourism should be hidden, Divine always felt responsible for the small paradises of the world. A camera is sometimes like a bulldozer for him, which, as soon as pictures are in circulation, destroys the charm of these unique places.

In 1981, Divine was hired as an image editor at Surfer Magazine and stayed there for 16 years. Then he moved to The Surfer's Journal.
