Spring Selection - Jürgen Schadeberg, Torsten Andreas Hoffmann, Craig Semetko, Luis Castañeda

February 22, 2014 - March 29, 2014

Selected photographs from the portfolio of Leica Galerie Frankfurt will be shown - well-known pictures by Jürgen Schadeberg, showing Nelson Mandela as a young politician in the fight against apartheid in the 1950s and as a counterpart to this after his release from prison. Among them the famous image that went around the world: a thoughtful Nelson Mandela as he returns to his former cell on Robben Island in 1994 and lets his gaze wander through the bars into the distance.

Torsten Andreas Hoffmann reveals a different world with his paired New York - Frankfurt views, which communicate with each other with their urban structures and illustrate to the viewer the often amazing parallels between the world capital and the small metropolis.

Craig Semetko, on the other hand, dives into the cities, people and animals are his protagonists. In a humorous, bizarre manner, he depicts moments that he spontaneously finds on the street - not always humorous scenes, but also melancholy and beautiful taken from life moments that touch the viewer.

Similarly, the images of Luis Castañeda evoke in a restrained manner emotions that are triggered by his silent scenes in which. On the one hand, there are hidden clues that must be discovered in his compositions, on the other hand, it is the obvious that convey his images.
