Experiencing Legends - Milestones of Leica photography

March 27, 2015 - May 30, 2015

Any other camera has achieved a comparable status as the Leica camera in the last century. Among their photographers are legends, whose unique recordings have burnt into the memory of the viewers.

In reference to the exhibition "Eyes wide open! 100 years of Leica photography ", which will be shown in the photography Forum Frankfurt from mid-March, the Leica Gallery shows works by selected photographers who are part of the 100-year retrospective.

As different as the photographic positions of this picture show are, it combines something quite essential: the Leica.

Within the history of photography the invention of the portable Leica marked a change. Photographers were able to act more spontaneously due to the mobile size and partly also to capture moments in precarious situations.

The diversity of design is expressed by the light-weight lenses, whose visual results often attained masterful status: like a romantic scene in the side mirror of a car, photographed by Elliott Erwitt, or a photo by Thomas Hoepker where Willy Brandt relax in the bathrobe on the beach. The handstand by Hans Prignitz at the Hamburg Michel by Jürgen Schadeberg also illustrates impressively how a technical masterpiece can enter into a symbiosis with the photographer. They all tell stories and contribute to the Leica history.

The "Leica" is not just a combination of innovative technology and robust material, but it also expresses one's own lifestyle, which is reflected in the photographs.
