Collodion Days

November 27, 2019 - November 30, 2019

Collodion photography, created around 1850, is considered the first commercial photo process. From a process in which a plate is sensitized with dissolved cotton, chemicals and silver, an artistically and technically valuable photo print is created, which today has a rarity character. The theory and practice-oriented collodion days start in the Leica Store Frankfurt

with a lecture by Peter van Hal. Using original documents and cameras from the 19th century, the collodion process is illustrated, which is a particularly fascinating and delicate process in which chemistry plays a central role. A thin layer of silver is applied to a glass or aluminum plate. The chemical process of development and fixation takes the viewer into the early days of photography.

The lecture will be held in english and is free of charge.
